The s/m concept of “vanilla” sex is sex devoid of passion. They are saying that there can be no passion without unequal power. That feels very sad and lonely to me, and destructive. The linkage of passion to dominance/subordination is the prototype of the heterosexual image of male-female relationships … Women are supposed to love being brutalized. This is also the prototypical justification of all relationships of oppression—that the subordinate one who is “different” enjoys the inferior position.

Edmonia Lewis (1845-1909) was an African American and Native American sculptor that would find success despite discrimination for her race and gender. She was an art student at Oberlin College and would excel in her courses but would later drop out after being accused of theft and poisoning two classmates; this led to a mob beating her up severely, only to have her acquitted of any wrong doing at trial. She would later move to Boston to further her education in sculpting. Her big break would come in 1864 with a bust she made of Colonel Robert Gould Shaw being widely celebrated and selling many copies; this would supply her with enough money to move to Rome. She would spend most of her adult career in Italy and became a highly paid and internationally respected sculptor. Two of her most notable works are: Forever Free and The Death of Cleopatra.

… why is porn on this list?
i’ll just like to add, like cigarettes? dont smoke them near anyone else, oh wait you do!
like alcohol? that’s fine, if you’re going to get drunk though do it in your house by yourself
this list is fucking wrong, some of those things affect OTHER PEOPLE, so it’s not that simple.
It’s not a fucking woman’s job to be consumed and invaded and spat out so that some fucking man can evolve.

social worky: Feminism: Race Matters (Crime Stats)
There is a lot of push back from women who claim to be feminists but don’t believe race is part of the conversation. I’ve seen impassioned arguments and explanations as to why the two things must be talked about together. It never fails to end with the faux Feminist saying that…
Yes, Republicans are WASP…Christians as a whole, however, are not.
This image is really not okay. The real face of anti-marriage equality is not African-Americans, but Whites.
But this picture is not saying Christians are against same sex marriage. It’s saying Black people are. Black people are not the problem; the problem is a religious and political ideology. This meme is not okay.
I think its wrong that its a white guy saying it because yes they are the problem when it comes to the actual law, but it does have a point, african americans can relate to gays when it come to oppression, straight white men cant, even though its on white men to change the law as they have the most power to do so, it doesn’t make sense that you know how it feels to be oppressed and yet want gays to remain oppressed, same with women who are anti gay.
No, the problem is deeper than White Willy Wonka saying it. The problem is that this meme arises from the idea that Black people are primarily responsible for the opposition to same-sex marriage, and that is completely untrue. It is White people who are the face of the movement, and it is White people who are pushing the idea that same-sex marriage will destroy heterosexual marriage.
This image is particularly problematic because of how the LGBT community has used horribly racist terms to frame the debate. There’s this sort of implication that Black people in the U.S. are no longer oppressed, which is untrue, and that the experience of being gay is the same as being Black. Totally not - and it also forgets the fact that there are plenty of non-White gay people, who are coping with both racial and sexual discrimination.
I agree, it would be nice if experiencing one kind of oppression made people more able to comprehend and sympathize with the oppression of others - but expecting that puts a seriously unfair burden on the oppressed. As you said, it’s the straight White men who have the real power to change this situation…we need to stop trying to blame it on anyone else.
Ok I will delete my post because I see how people might think I was supporting the meme, but that wasn’t my intention and I apologise to gay people of colour whom I have hurt with my post.

You COMPLETELY ignore the fact that there are people who are both black AND gay. I would be one of them. Way to go.
I know there are people who are black and gay, I’m not talking about all black people, I know there are women who are gay aswel, I’m talking about straight people who don’t accept gay people whether they are people of colour or women. I understand that everyone can be an arsehole, white gays can be racist against people of colour. I’m not saying black people are the problem which is why I dont agree that its a white guy in the photo since white men have most of the power to change the law. I’m saying it doesn’t make sense if you’re against racist white people and anti-gay at the same time. STRAIGHT PEOPLE are the problem, but when you know what oppression is like you should be more understanding of others oppression.
I am a woman of colour and was raised with black women, but maybe its not for me to say because I’m not African American, but I wasn’t trying to exclude gay people of colour.

The fact that men just sit there and make comments on a woman’s body and like talk about body parts, body shapes, what features are ideal (not stuff like blue eyes—but like dissecting facial features so that a whole group of women are left out), and talk about whether ‘they’d hit that’ when a…
